Silverwoods information for auction sellers.
Q: How can I sell my items at Silverwoods Auction Rooms?
A: Simply follow these easy steps
- Wrap up all valuables and/or breakables so they cannot be damaged in transit
- Call in at Silverwoods Auction House on any Monday 9am - 12 noon. At Bank Holidays we accept items on the Friday morning prior to and the Tuesday morning after the holiday
- Drive in to the large reception hall in the Silverwoods Building
- Unwrap all your items and place on tables provided
- Once your items are unwrapped, a member of staff will come and appraise them and advise on the best sale in which to place them and where appropriate discuss estimates and reserves. If you are happy with this advice and wish to place your items for sale, you can leave them there and then whereupon you will be issued with an itemised receipt.
- Alternatively if you are happy to complete your own form, fill in the descriptions of your items on the forms provided, with your reserves. (if you are unsure of the description or how much reserve to put please ask a member of staff who will advise you.)
- Leave your items with Silverwoods.
- A cheque for your sold items will be sent 7 – 10 days following the sale.
- If your item didn’t meet the reserve you will be contacted to arrange collection or in some cases a reoffering of the item at a revised reserve.
Q: What if I cannot come on a Monday?
A: If you are unable to attend the intake and valuation day due to your location, quantity of items or other circumstances, please call Wilf Mould on 01200 423322 who will be happy to discuss other possibilities such as a home visit. Alternatively, email wilf@silverwoods.co.uk attaching a jpeg photograph and short description for an initial assessment of your item by return email. If you are interested in progressing to sell your item at auction, a proper valuation of it is highly advisable and can be arranged to suit your needs.
Q: How much will it cost?
A: Commission: 15% on single items up to £500. On more expensive lots we charge 15% on the first £500 and 10% on the remainder.
There is a minimum charge of £3 per lot for items in the Antiques Sales and £1 per lot for items in the Wednesday general sales.
Insurance: 1% on all lots.
VAT: At the current rate is charged on the commission and Insurance.
Q: What if my items are unsold?
A: We will contact you the day after the sale and discuss the options with you. Company policy states that we generally will not re enter unsold items in the next sale unless agreed with the auctioneer. There is an unsold fee of £3.00 per lot.
Please remember we are here to help. Our friendly, dedicated staff will do all we can to make buying or selling with Silverwoods easy and hassle-free.
