Silverwoods information for auction buyers.

Q: How do I buy from Silverwoods Catalogue Auctions

A: Simply follow these easy steps

  1. Firstly you must register with us and we issue you with a Bidders number which is valid for the calendar year January to December (there is an admin fee of £2.50). (A temporary day number is free for the monthly sales)
  2. You then look around the auction room during the viewing period, making a note of any item you want to bid on. We also suggest you make a note of your limit for the item.
  3. When the item you wish to bid on is announced at the Auction raise your bidders card or catalogue to indicate to the auctioneer that you are bidding. If you drop out of the bidding and wish to resume bidding, again indicate to the auctioneer that you are bidding.
  4. If you have successfully purchased any lots and you decide to leave, please settle your account in the office where you will be given a receipt.
  5. You hand this receipt to a porter at the packing area who will collect your items from the saleroom for you.
  6. Feel free to use any packaging provided to ensure your items are safe and secure

Q: What if I cannot attend the auction?

A: For purchasers unable to attend the auction we are able to offer commission bid and telephone bid services (see below for information on telephone bids).  Please note that the cut off point for absentee bids is 4.00pm on the Wednesday, the day prior to the sale. If your bid is successful, a member of staff will contact you immediately after the sale to arrange a collection time. Alternatively you can bid live on line by registering with the-saleroom.com. This service incurrs a fee of 3% of the hammer price.

Q: What if I can't attend the viewing and the auction?

A: We always urge people to try to view the items so they are happy with what they are bidding for. If you are unable to attend the viewing and the auction, Silverwoods are happy to provide additional images and condition reports.  These will only be given in writing, therefore condition requests received after 4pm on the Wednesday, the day prior to the sale will not be accepted. If you are happy with the condition report then a member of staff can then fill in a bidding slip for you and the auctioneer will bid on your behalf, we will then notify you if you are successful within an hour of the completion of the sale.

Q: Can I bid over the phone?

A: Yes we will conduct telephone bids on any items estimated to make over £150. Please note that the cut off point for telephone bids is 4.00pm on the Wednesday, the day prior to the sale. We will contact you approximately five lots prior to the item you are interested in. We cannot be held responsible if we are unable to make contact. If all lines are booked for any item that you may be interested in bidding we can bid on your behalf if you leave us an absentee bid.

Q: What if I am unable to collect the item?

A: If you are the successful purchaser of any lots we can arrange transport or posting of the item. This service is at your cost.

Q: Do I have to pay a buyers premium?

A: Yes, we charge a premium to the buyer of 15% of the hammer price on each lot that you buy. Vat at the current rate applies to this charge.

Q: How can I pay?

A: We accept cash, credit and debit cards (subject to a charge of 2%) and cheques subject to the usual bank clearing facilities. We can take payments over the phone or by post but please do not send cash through the post.  Please note that payments for absentee bids i.e commission/telephone/internet will only be accepted by bank transfer or debit card.  Credit cards will not be accepted for absentee bids.

Please remember we are here to help. Our friendly, dedicated staff will do all we can to make buying or selling with Silverwoods easy and enjoyable.
